Jason Kottke, der unter kottke.org eines der erfolgreichsten Blogs der Welt betreibt, hat in einer Serie über die Zukunft des Journalismus zur Aktualität des Formats „Blog“ Stellung bezogen und resümiert mit „The blog is dead, long live the blog„.
Instead of blogging, people are posting to Tumblr, tweeting, pinning things to their board, posting to Reddit, Snapchatting, updating Facebook statuses, Instagramming, and publishing on Medium. […] Instead of launching blogs, companies are building mobile apps, Newsstand magazines on iOS, and things like The Verge. The Verge or Gawker or Talking Points Memo or BuzzFeed or The Huffington Post are no more blogs than The New York Times or Fox News, and they are increasingly not referring to themselves as such.
Natürlich gibt es zum oben zitierten einen Follow-Up-Artikel (auf Kottkes Blog, ha!), in dem er einige der Veränderungen, die sich nun direkt aufs Bloggen auswirken, anspricht. Besonders stark zu spüren – und ich nehme das genauso wahr – ist der Wegfall guter RSS Reader und der Schwenk zu als sozial getarnten Werbenetzwerken als Publikations- wie auch als Informationsquelle:
Through various blogrolls […] and RSS readers, I used to keep up with hundreds of blogs every day and over a thousand every week. Now I read just two blogs daily […] I check my RSS reader only occasionally, and sometimes not for weeks. I rely mainly on Twitter, Facebook, Digg, Hacker News, and Stellar for keeping up with news and information… that’s where most of the people I know do their „blogging“. I still read lots of blog posts, but only when they’re interesting enough to pop up on the collective radar of those I follow… and increasingly those posts are on Medium, Facebook, or Tumblr.
Dass Kottke damit einen Nerv getroffen hat, sieht man überall: Der Zeit-im-Bild „Blog“ wird auf Facebook veröffentlicht, die Zeit Online ist auf Tumblr vertreten und selbst die NZZ betreibt einen Twitter-Account. Mit der Fußnote zu Tumblr (und all den Erwähnungen der Plattform!) streut mir Kottke allerdings ganz viel Salz in die Wunde.
