Die Nachricht ist nicht neu, sie wiederholt sich aber erschreckend häufig. Apples Backuplösung Time Machine scheint immer wieder Probleme zu haben.
A couple of weeks ago, not long before my new book was published, Time Machine displayed the following helpful error message on my Mac: “Time Machine couldn’t complete the backup to ‘Backup Drive’. Unable to compete backup. An error occurred while creating the backup folder.” (…) Then yesterday, [another] laptop, which backs up to a completely different destination (a Time Capsule), displayed yet another error message: “Time Machine completed a verification of your backups (…) To improve reliability, Time Machine must create a new backup for you. Click Start New Backup to create a new backup. This will remove your existing backup history. This could take several hours. Click Back Up Later to be reminded tomorrow. Time Machine won’t perform backups during this time.”
Backup-Software, die nicht zuverlässig funktioniert, ist nicht sicher. Diese schmerzliche Erfahrung habe ich auch schon gemacht und eine Anleitung zu sicheren Backups unter Mac OS X geschrieben, damit sie sonst niemand machen muss. (Die Erfahrung, nicht die Backups!)
