Wie sieht es aus wenn jemand – hier im besonderen Fall: ein Kind – zu ertrinken droht? spotthedrowningchild.com ist eine Art Online-Spiel, bei dem man unterschiedliche Szenen aus einem Schwimmbad zu sehen bekommt, die alle eine Gemeinsamkeit verbindet: Kurze Zeit nach Start des Videos droht ein Kind zu ertrinken. Das spielerische Element der Website besteht darin, das Kind vor dem Rettungsschwimmer zu entdecken und es mittels Klick darauf zu markieren.
Das viel wichtigere Element des Spiels ist jedoch die Aufklärung, die unter den Videos angezeigt wird und mit vielerlei Vorstellungen aufräumt, die man so zum Thema Ertrinken hat, denn: „Drowning does not look like drowning.“
The Instinctive Drowning Response […] is what people do to avoid actual or perceived suffocation in the water. And it does not look like what most people expect. Vor Lektüre der Erklärung, wie Ertrinken aussieht, bin ich fast erschrocken als der Rettungsschwimmer plötzlich ins Wasser sprang, um eine Person zu retten. Nach Lektüre der Erklärung habe ich alle Kinder, die zu ertrinken drohten, noch vor dem Rettungsschwimmer entdeckt. (via @danimrich)
