Bislang konnte man sich über Google Domains eine Domain kaufen und von einigen Zusatzleistungen wie E-Mailweiterleitung (oder die Verknüpfung zu Google Workspace), einem kleine Websitebuilder und einer engen Anbindung an Google Ads profitieren. Nun lese ich aber, dass dieser Geschäftsbereich (etwa 10 Millionen Domains) von Squarespace gekauft wurde.
Squarespace will honor all existing Google Domains customers‘ renewal prices for at least 12 months following the closing of the transaction, as well as provide additional incentives to encourage Google Domains customers to build a website with Squarespace and adopt other Squarespace offerings. Further, Squarespace will be leveraging Google’s infrastructure powering the Google Domains product during the migration period in order to ensure the seamless transfer of domains.

In diesem Abschnitt aus dem Ankündigungsartikel im Squarespace Firmenblog lese ich heraus: Nach einem Jahr schrauben wir die Preise hoch. Und außerdem wird es „additional incentives“ geben, mit denen wir unseren nunmehr neuen Kund:innen weitere Angebote von Squarespace vorstellen werden. Also Werbung. Im Klartest schreibt Squarespace hier, dass es Werbemails versenden wird. Das sieht auch Nick Heer so.
